The Post-Basic Nursing program provides a broad-based curriculum within an academic context that builds on the skills learned at the initial level. The program helps to upgrade the nursing skills of individuals who already have a background in nursing or a similar field. It is aimed at improving critical thinking skills, competencies and standards needed for skilled nursing and midwifery practice, as outlined in National Health Policy 2002.

After Post Basic Nursing Program the candidates are considered as graduate nurses and they can further pursue a career as a Military Nurse, Tutor, M.Sc. (Nursing), M.Phil and PhD.

Objective

  • To be able to address nursing needs, prepare, administer, and assess nursing care for patients.
  • To demonstrate competency in nursing procedures through learning and experience .
  • To take part in the preventive, curative and restorative health care delivery system of the country, as a member of the health team.
  • To showcase leadership qualities and decision-making abilities in various circumstances.
  • To demonstrate teaching and managerial skills to individuals and groups in community health settings.
  • To participate in research activities and make good use of research findings in improving their nursing practices.

Career Prospects

After Post Basic Nursing Program the candidates are considered as graduate nurses. An array of employment opportunities is available for qualified and dedicated nurses in Government Hospitals, Nursing homes, Super Speciality Hospitals, Private Hospitals, Old age Homes, Orphanages, Armed Forces (Medical Division), State Nursing Council, Indian Red Cross Society, NGO’s, Government Agencies and Research Institutes.
